College Profile

Mariamante Academy is a private, classical high school, founded by Catholic laity in 1995. Mariamante forms the whole student; intellectually, spiritually, morally, emotionally, and physically, through the Jesuit model of education. Mariamante Academy's core curriculum is Catholic because it is rooted in the Church's Magisterium. The teaching Church informs all that we undertake in the classroom. Mariamante is classical because through study of the Greek, Roman, and Hebrew cultures, the student understands how wisdom and virtue were cultivated in the ancient mind and will. The study of Christianity enables the student to grasp Truth in light of man's highest intellectual, cultural and scientific achievements.

Faculty members lead by their commitment to excellence and virtue. The religious studies program works toward a facility in mathematics, science, history, literature, theology, art, music, drama, physical education, and ancient and modern languages. By Senior year, mastery of high school studies is revealed in student SAT scores and college acceptances. Graduates have been accepted at the University of Pennsylvania, Gonzaga University, Columbia University, Hillsdale College, Magdalen College, the University of Chicago, the University of Dallas, Boston College, Merrimack College, Christendom College, St. Anselm College, Ave Maria University, St. Joseph College, University of Notre Dame Graduate School of Architecture, the Teresianum and Antonianum Pontifical Universities in Rome, Thomas Aquinas College, the University of Massachusetts Cambridge College of Music, and South Carolina State University, among others. Graduates of Mariamante also serve in the United States Armed Forces.

Students cannot fully succeed without respect for the peer in their midst. While admission standards require each student to learn intellectually and discipline themselves morally, they are also nurtured to take their place in a Christian community of learners. Development of character permeates academia, forming young men and women in imitation of Christ and His mother. Thusly, each student comes to regard authority and peers with reverence. C.S. Lewis called it appreciative love and the Student Handbook cites its motto, "amor redet amor" (love begets love).

Mariamante Academy is in compliance with all federal, state and local requirements to operate as a high school in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Diocese of Arlington. It is a member of NAPCIS, the National Association of Private and Catholic Independent Schools.
